Who qualifies for rental assistance or other financial assistance?

This answer could change based on our specific funding sources, but as a rule, we are meant to serve as a BRIDGE between crisis and recovery. We are meant to stand in the gap for when your very best planning has fallen a little short. If this doesn’t seem like it matches your situation, see below.

Who qualifies for help from Next Steps?

LITERALLY ANYONE. Our clients range from those who have resources to those who have none. As a non-profit organization, we believe that anyone in crisis qualifies for assistance. Our case managers are natural-born problem solvers. If we can’t help, we will refer you to someone who can.

Is Next Steps affiliated with a church?

Next Steps is not affiliated in any way with any religious organization. We see every person as unique and worthy of our time and attention.

What is a case manager?

A case manager is a person who is assigned to YOU. Case managers generally help you get in touch with the right person, although sometimes we can provide direct counseling or coaching. Next Step’ case managers are experts at quickly assessing an individual’s situation and creating a customized care or assistance plan to address the root cause issues that led to a crisis. From there, we direct, mentor, advocate, coach, teach, motivate and encourage our neighbors to take the next steps on their path to recovery.

What happens to the information I provide to you?

All the information you provide to us is kept confidential and will only be shared with your consent when it is necessary to help your case. We do not sell or give your information to anybody.

Will you ever report me to the police?

We have a legal and ethical duty to keep all your information confidential. The law does require us to contact authorities if a patient is a danger to him/herself, to others, and/or if we know or suspect that a child is being abused.

Can you help me get a job if I have barriers such as felonies, no transportation, lack of experience?

Your case manager will work with you to understand your specific situation and provide realistic options to you.

What if I just need to talk to someone?

Our case managers are NOT licensed counselors, however, we are very experienced listeners. We often speak to clients who need help setting appropriate boundaries with those around them who ARE in desperate situations. This is where we shine!

I need to get sober, can you help?

First of all, congratulations, you have just taken the first step toward a new life by asking this question. Yes, we can help! We are well connected with drug addiction recovery resources in our community.

I saw someone homeless here in town. What should I do?

There are many, many reasons why someone is homeless. If they appear to be in immediate danger due to their location or weather conditions, please call 911. You can also give out our phone number on a piece of paper or our business card. The Colony has a relatively small homeless population so we may already be aware of their situation. You can always call us first.

Next Steps mission is to help people who live in The Colony. However, if you are nearby, please contact us and we’ll be very glad to talk about assistance options.
